There are bad places to make stopovers, and then are bad places to make stopovers. A planet devoid of air, water, and no native life, may not rate among best of holiday layovers, but that’s where three travellers, all hailing from different planets, find themselves after a breakdown in transport services leaves them stranded there for the duration.
The Galaxy, and the Ground Within (published by Hachette Australia, 2021), is the fourth book in the Wayfarers series, written by American science fiction writer Becky Chambers. While part of a collection, the Wayfarers books are only loosely connected to each other, so reading the other three titles is not necessary.
By the sounds of it though, if you enjoyed one story, chances are you’ll like the others. While I’m yet to partake whatsoever, from what I can gather, the books in the Wayfarers series have a hopeful disposition. And who isn’t looking for a little positivity at the moment? To my mind, it’s a mood set by the cover, isn’t looking up at the stars a tonic for the soul?
