One should never judge a book by its cover, that’s an axiom, but here at Short List Books, I can’t help but judge, or would that be admire book covers. And what a feast for the eyes is the cover of Lucky’s (published by Picador/Pan Macmillan Australia, 2020), the debut novel of Sydney based Australian author Andrew Pippos (Instagram/Twitter).
They say red and blue should never be in view, but the bold hues work a treat here. Short listed for the 2021 Miles Franklin Literary Award, Lucky’s follows the story of Vasilis ‘Lucky’ Mallios, a larrikin character, who among other things, tries his hand as a restaurateur, opening a chain of cafes called — in case it wasn’t obvious — Lucky’s.
Lucky’s is on my to-read list, and this is a title I can’t wait to get hold of.
