It’s not literary fiction, nor is it the type of fiction I normally feature, but it is Friday so that’s why you’re seeing the cover of Alone in Space: A Collection (published by Avery Hill Publishing, 2021), the recently released new collection of work by Tillie Walden, an American illustrator and cartoonist from Texas.
Alone in Space: A Collection features earlier graphic novels by Walden including I Love this Part, originally published in 2015, A City Inside, published in 2016, and The End of Summer, also published in 2015. Other of her works are also included, so if you’ve not heard of Tillie Walden before, this might make a good introduction to her stories.
But here I go again, judging a book by its cover, and Alone in Space: A Collection caught my eye the instant I saw it. I can imagine myself as the person depicted on the cover, when I was school age, looking out the window of my room, and imagining a weird and wonderful dream-like world of my own making enveloping me.
